Taking a back-seat

Taking a back-seat

When Truth takes a backseat to Ego, Jealousy, Anger, and Politics, Trust is lost.

I read the life story of the late AnnapurnaDevi who was granted in 1977 the Padma Bhushan award and was the first wife of the global sitar celebrity, the late RaviShankar or the daughter of Allauddin Khan, a venerated maestro in HindustaniMusic.

Before vanishing Devi formerly named as Roshanara Khan had earned her way into the musical stratosphere. She was not allowed to study music unlike her brother, yet she listened to music. Her father changed his mind and taught her the hashtag#surbahar(bass sitar). Her musical virtuoso and refinement would be appreciated only by aficionados.

Devi was known to the outsiders only as an accessory to the men in her life as she stopped performing in hope of saving her marriage. Her husband was jealous of her success and feared her fame. She took a vow in front of her father and goddess Saraswati’s picture pledging never to perform.

The only outsider to listen to her play was hashtag#GeorgeHarrison, whom she allowed to sit in on one of her daily practice session which was granted after coaxing from then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

An Empowered Woman should never live in the shadow of another person. She is a Genius and an Enigma herself.
